Do you think video games are to blame?

A 7-year old girl was brutally killed on 6 December by her half sister and [the half sisters] boyfriend. They were trying to re-enact scenes from “Mortal Combat” by savagely hitting and kicking the little girl, even dropping her on her side, which broke her wrist. She died from blunt force trauma to her brain and central nervous system, her right wrist was broken, her body had more than 20 bruises, her neck muscles were bleeding and a skin flap near her tongue had been torn.

Are violent video games at fault? Is it lack of parental supervision/guidance? Both? Neither?

If it were up to you, what would you think an appropriate sentence for the killers would be?
Just to update: the 7 year old was kidnapped by her mom (they had joint custody, but the mom took off with the girl by herself). Her dad recently found out where they were living and was fighting to gain full custody. They [mom and dad] were supposed to go to court on 10 December for a custody hearing.
